Cabo San Lucas-San Jose del Cabo
13 February 2022 - We got a good early departure from Cabo San Lucas headed to San Jose del Cabo, only about 18 miles away by our route, because the wind was forecast to be pretty light. As it turned out, the wind was okay and picked up as the day progressed so we made good time and arrived mid-afternoon.
We motored for a couple of hours while the wind was light but then after it picked up to 10 knots or so out of the E and S, we had a good sail into Puerto Los Cabos, the harbor at San Jose del Cabo.
We saw several whales in the short hop between Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Los Cabos. One was trying to cross our course and pinged us to determine where we were. The hull, acting as a hydrophone, transmitted all the sound to us and Jimena, down below, was able to record the whale’s song. I could hear it even out in the wind in the cockpit. The we saw the whale surface behind us about 300 meters astern on a perpendicular course toward the beach.

We fetched Puerto Los Cabos harbor a little after 1400, got the mainsail down then motored into the harbor, found our slip and got tied up. A disappointment was that, once again, our shore power cord required an adapter which we did not have, to plug into the marina’s shore power. Thus we were unable to use the battery charger for our failing batteries. Not too big a deal since we had almost zero load in the slip, not even the anchor light, but I resolved to procure the adapter as soon as possible since this has occurred in the last two marinas we have visited here in Mexico.
We got off the boat, toured the beautiful marina, took showers, then went to the Hook Up cantina overlooking the marina, ate dinner and watched the first half of Super Bowl LVI. Then back to the boat where we spent a very restful night once the party at the Hook Up had died off.
