Canoe Cove BC to Friday Harbor

20240926 – We got up very early and had a cup of coffee before we cast off at around 0650, about 10 minutes early, to catch slack water out of Canoe Cove and a fair current through the Spieden Channel. We made it through Page Passage without incident even though it was low water. The weather was clear and chilly, with no more rain, thankfully.

Page Passage at sunup

We did have to buck an incoming tide and current until we got out to the Haro Strait, then it changed to a beam current from the south. We got a bit of a start when USCIS denied our online application for entry into the U.S. Jimena called them in Friday Harbor and they said it was denied because we were still in Canadian waters when it was sent. We were not, but we did not press the issue as they cleared us in with no need to stop at their office before we docked. We hauled down the Q flag immediately.

As predicted, in the Spieden Channel we got a bit of a boost from the current. We passed Battleship Island and Roche Harbor earlier than planned then, once through Spieden Channel, we turned south in the San Juan Channel and had to buck another foul current all the way down to Friday Harbor.

Passing Reid Rock into Friday Harbor

We watched the ferry from Anacortes pass in front of us and into Friday Harbor. We got into Friday Harbor and were assigned G-41 based on our preference to tie up starboard side to. However, the wind was blowing us off of that dock and onto G-39 which was also open so we tied up there and called the harbor Master to let him know. It was no issue.

We walked up the dock to the head then on up to the Marina Office where we paid our fee then we walked around Friday Harbor and back to the boat.

It began raining in the late afternoon. We walked in a drizzle to Friday’s Crab House near the ferry landing and ate supper there then walked back down to the boat. We hit the head then went to sleep under clouds and clearing conditions.
