And Along Came Michin…

We picked up another crew-member on October 24th, 2017. Literally. As we drove up an extremely busy avenue to my work, we spotted a small puff of fur headed out across the street. We stopped, scooped him up and looked around for his mother and the rest of the litter. To no avail.

So we kept him. We named him Michin, a word Jimena used in Colombia for kittens roughly analogous to “kitty”. He could have been “Lucky”. He was. Jimena took him to the vet for his eye infection and his respiratory infection, for his shots and his de-worming.

We fed him every two hours for 4 days and nights with an eye dropper until he was strong enough to sail; then, we hit the seas with Michin as First Mouser. He had little to do really.

Since we found Michin he has been on every sailing trip we have taken. At first he loved it, scampering all over the boat, in and out of the lockers and all the hidey holes he could find. Then, somewhere along the way, he discovered seasickness. La Marea. Mal de Mer. And then he did not like it so much anymore. But he is a good sailor, he adjusts to the sea in a day or two and then gets along fine. He is quite adaptable and is good, funny company.
