A note on times/dates/speeds/distances/etc.

 These are conventions you will see throughout this blog:

Dates: Month/Year (MM/YYYY) default of the site template

Times: 24 Hour (HHMM);

The boat has a ship’s clock which strikes eight bells at 1200/2400, 0400/1600 and 0800/2000. Every half hour it strikes one more bell so each hour is identified by an even number of bells, each half hour is an odd number, up to eight bells when it starts all over. Thus 1230/0030, 0430/1630 and 0830/2030 are one bell, 1300/0100, 0500/1700 and 0900/2100 are two bells, etc.

Distances: Nautical Miles (NM) (one nautical mile equals just a hair more than 1.15 statute, or land, miles)

Speeds: knots (KTs) (one knot equals one nautical mile per hour)

Wind: speed in knots; direction is from whence the wind comes in degrees Magnetic (M) or True (T)

Wind speed may also be expressed in Beaufort force levels (0-12) from the Beaufort wind force scale.

For more info on the Beaufort scale click:

Direction: degrees Magnetic (M) or True (T)

Depth: feet (ft) or fathoms (one fathom equals six feet). Antoinette draws six feet so we require at least 7 feet of water if we don’t want to run aground; of course we try not to cut it that close.

Atmospheric pressure: millibars (mb)
