Playa Bonanza

30 January 2023 – We got up very early this morning, had coffee, readied the boat then uncleated the dock lines and shoved off at 0700. We motored out of Costa Baja through the blasted channel, raised the mainsail then killed the engine and had a beautiful sail on southwest winds from Costa Baja up through the San Lorenzo Channel, past some folks diving on the wreck of the Salvatierra and into the big bay at Playa Bonanza.

We were anchored in 15’ of water between a power boat and a Canadian catamaran by 1100; a good short re-introduction to cruising.

Around 1600 a large National Geographic cruise ship hove into the bay and anchored near us. They launched all their RIBs and turned on their generators.

We sat out some rain and high contrary winds in the following days then finally launched for Ensenada de los Muertos through the Cerralvo Channel, always a potentially dicey proposition, in the beginning of February.
