Puerto Peñasco, the Splash

17 November 2022 – Big day. We splashed the boat again after much work and a fair stretch off of sailing so we’ll find out what we’ve forgotten. Always some nerves on such a day.

We stayed in an Air BnB close to the yard and walked to work on the boat each day. We are sad to leave some good friends we’ve made here in Puerto Peñasco: April and Matthew and Charlie from S/V Blow Me; Debbie and Brian from S/V Dawn Treader; Kim and Chris from S/V Kaaluna (special thanks to Kim for her photos on this page); Lisanna and Bill from S/V Rocinante, and of course, Señor y Señor Cabrales, father and son, masters of the yard and their fine staff. And also, a very special thanks to Don up in Phoenix and to our families, for all their support. We could not do this without them.

This was a good opportunity to shake the boat down. We found some minor issues (small rips in heads of genoa and staysail), added some new equipment (a water maker and wind vane steering) and generally got a good look at Antoinette out of the water. We got her bottom repainted with anti-fouling paint, replaced some zinc anodes, and had some dings in her topsides faired and repainted. Otherwise, she is holding up well although quite dirty.

Getting on the skateboard, ready to splash

Fixing to splash Antoinette

We headed down to Isla Angel de la Guarda, to Puerto Refugio on the north end,; we considered going down to Isla Estanque on the south end but decided to stop and rest at Puerto Refugio.

But first there was the matter of getting back in the water. We had many, many things to do before then so we were up very early with list in hand. Not least of our chores was getting transferred from the Air BnB to the boat.

The Michin will be very disappointed at going back aboard but he will find his locker and get situated.
