Point Hudson to Roche Harbor
20240913-We got up very early and set out in dark and fog to catch the height of the ebb current out of Puget Sound into the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca. We motored, ran the radar and passed the Port Townsend red “2” bell buoy just after 0600.
We motored out into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, past Stewart Island then caught sight of Lopez and San Juan Islands and Cattle Point where we had visited with our families by land.
We motored on up along the west side of San Juan Island, Past the Lime Kiln light (seeing nary an Orca at all) then up around Henry Island and past Battleship and Pearl Islands into Roche Harbor. We skipped Mosquito Pass due to our unfamiliarity with the area and the tightness of the passage.
We got anchored in about 40 feet of water by 1400 just northwest of SV Present Moment. Just as we finished anchoring Jay came over from Present Moment for a welcome visit. Then it began to rain so he departed, and we went below and took naps. It was a good time for napping, chilly and dark. Plus, we were tired from the early start.
