Caleta Partida
13 January 2023 – Despite it being Friday the 13th, we settled on departing Isla San Francisco down to Caleta Partida between Isla Partida and Isla Espiritu Santo, just about 25 NM north of La Paz. The only bad things which occurred were that we lost one of the big shackles off our anchor bridle (not a huge deal) and I made a mistake setting one of the sails, not a huge deal either, so all-in-all, we cheated fate again.
We sailed for a little bit in strong winds under genoa alone, a good downwind sail, then motored up into the anchorage where we anchored in amongst a crowd of about 10 boats. We anchored right in front of (probably a little too close) our friends from Santa Rosalia last year on S/V Dreamcatcher, Gina and Bruce.
This is another lovely anchorage but, like Isla San Francisco, close enough to La Paz to be overrun with boats and people. I suppose we are cruising snobs now.
We did break out the dinghy and motor ashore on the second day. Once again, I heard and owl hooting on the shore. We went for a lovely walk on the beach to the north of us where it gets very shallow, then drove over to Bruce and Gina’s boat S/V Dreamcatcher for a tour and a visit
The wind blew through the partida, but the anchorage is quite secure, no one budged.
A couple of big charter catamarans out of La Paz came into the anchorage in the evening and anchored just ahead of us. They were bright and loud but otherwise no issue for us.
