La Paz - Caleta Partida, Isla Espiritu Santo
1 April 2022 - We cast off from the dock at Costa Baja Marina, on a Friday AND on April Fool’s Day (we hoped Neptune was asleep, or those two things would cancel each other out) and headed north from La Paz bound for Caleta Partida on Isla Espiritu Santo. The winds were fair, the seas were following and we had a beautiful sail up to Caleta Partida. We were anchored in 20’ of water before 1300.
Caleta Partida means “Split Cove” and so it was, remarkably reminiscent of the isthmus on Santa Catalina Island in Southern California, where one can walk to the other side of the Island in about a quarter mile. The anchorage was beautiful and chock full when we arrived. Then every single other boat departed, causing no small consternation among us. We hailed one of the departing boats and asked what was up..She laughed, said they had been there for nine days and it was just what happened. She said that by the evening the anchorage would be full again, and sure enough, it was. We managed to relax and enjoy our time there.
We took the dinghy ashore and hiked over to the other side of the island and swam around the boat some. We would have enjoyed staying longer but we must be ever mindful of the winds and the weather so move we had to.
